Winter 2022: Meeting California's Pledge to Protect 30% by 2030

Challenge addressed: How do we implement 30x30 in a way that 1) conserves biodiveristy, 2) promotes climate resilience, and 3) ensures equitiable access to nature and its benefits?

Students worked in groups of 3-4 to choose a specific topic and design a novel data analysis to address their questions. They had 4 weeks to complete their analyses and summarize their findings in a policy brief (click the images below to view) and a presentation to conservation scientists and practitioners.

In addition to these policy briefs, we synthesized student recommendations and shared these in a public comment letter to California Natural Resources Agency, which is the state agency charged with planning and implementing 30x30.
